Charlton County is located in the extreme southeastern tip of Georgia, borders the state of Florida to the south at the St. Mary’s River, and is the gateway to the Okefenokee Swamp. Comprised of several rural communities, the local citizenry is involved in small business, timber, and farming.
The Charlton County School System has a student population of 1,656 (including preK) enrolled in four schools: two elementary schools, one in Folkston and one approximately 25 miles south of Folkston in the community of St. George; one middle school and one high school, both located in Folkston. We offer a full continuum of Special Education services in all four schools to meet the individual needs of our students with disabilities. Our three primary goals in meeting these needs are 1) to provide special education services to students with disabilities in the general education environment to the fullest extent possible, 2) to ensure our students graduate with a regular education diploma, and 3) to prepare our students to transition successfully into an adult world of full-time employment and community responsibility.
